![]() ![]() ![]() but my first impression of Rito and Lala in the anime, is that they were both dumber and meaner. I'll watch just about any harem out there if I like the characters-if they MC and main heroine(s) seem like nice people that I want to root for. And Lala seemed a lot more oblivious than she was in the manga (where she figures out Rito's true feelings for her very quickly, and immediately shifts her focus to "getting him to fall in love with me"). (Not to mention the antics related to Lala's inventions, and the occasional suitor attacking them.) The first few episodes of the anime were focused on the particulars of the engagement, and they end up making up a bunch of stuff (like Rito trying to break the engagement, or Rito having to face the consequences of what is means to be king of the universe) that isn't in the manga at all-and most of which didn't make Rito come out looking very well. In the manga the focus is on their feelings: Lala's unrequited love for Rito, Rito and Haruna's unspoken (and misunderstood) feelings for each other, Rito's developing feelings for Lala, etc. And there was a LOT of divergence from the manga plot, even from the very beginning, mostly regarding the engagement. I probably only watched about the first three or four episodes, so not very far.Ĭompared to the manga, Rito was portrayed as a bit of a jerk (in the manga, he's a perpetually nice guy-probably too nice at times). ![]()
